EMERGENCY services were called after a swimmer was seen 600m off Bournemouth Pier.

Poole Lifeboat launched at 7.30pm on Sunday August 18 to a report of a swimmer seen a long way off the coat of Bournemouth. The RNLI was tasked to locate the swimmer.

The lifeboat was swiftly away, conditions were bright, calm with slight westerly breeze.

The volunteer crew soon located the person, who acknowledged he was a long way off but happy to swim back ashore, the lifeboat escorted the swimmer back towards the shallows and once safe ashore the lifeboat was stood down with thanks and returned to station.

A spokesperson for Poole Lifeboat Station Said: “The first informant raised the alarm as they had concerns, which was the right thing to do, we would rather be safe than sorry, this was a call with good intent.”

The lifeboat was refuelled, wash down and ready for service by 8.45pm.

This was the 74th callout for the Poole volunteers, so far this year.
