A HORSE had to be euthanised after becoming trapped in a cattle grid in the New Forest.
Residents and visitors watched in shock as a horse had to be put down due to suffering serious injuries while crossing a cattle grid.
A local vet made the difficult decision after examining the horses’ injuries.
Emergency services attended the incident on August 10.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “Alongside police colleagues, a crew from Redbridge responded to a call about a horse trapped in a cattle grid on Woodlands Road Ashurst on 10 August.
“The horse came free without action being taken by HIWFRS.”
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “We can confirm that Police assisted with a horse on the afternoon of the date in question.
“It had suffered a broken leg in Ashurst. Sadly, the horse was put down by a local vet.”
