GET your habits out – the nuns are in town!
Having been an avid fan of the original 1992 Sister Act film, I knew the soundtrack and songs were going to be different and wasn’t sure what to expect – but Sister Act the musical blew me away.
Sister Act is quite simply two hours of fantastic feel-good entertainment - the perfect mix of fun, love, and incredible songs performed by an outstanding cast.
To have Landi Oshinowo (Deloris), a true star of the West End, at the Pavilion was a treat.
Not just a familiar face from the cobbles of Corrie, Wendi Peters was amazing as Mother Superior.
They both have fantastic stage presence and energy and brought new life to their characters, originally played by Whoopi Goldberg and Dame Maggie Smith.
The show tells the story of club singer Deloris Van Cartier who witnesses a murder and is placed into witness protection in a convent – becoming a nun on the run!
Here she lives with the sisters in their struggling convent, and eventually manages their equally struggling choir.
The score is by the king of Disney films, composer Alan Menken, ensuring each song was toe tapping and joyous with a sprinkling of disco glitter, so it was no surprise we were all on our feet at the end of the show, cheering and clapping the fantastic cast.
It’s a divine production and I’d recommend it to everyone!
The cast were amazing with a notable mention for Steady Eddie along with the vocal talents and energetic choreography of the whole company who made the show such a hit.
Sister Act is on at the Bournemouth Pavilion until Saturday, August 24, tickets and show details can be found at bournemouthpavilion.co.uk
