TODAY marks 13 years since the passing of Jon Egging, a former flight lieutenant for the Red Arrows.
Flt Lt Egging died when his Hawk aircraft crashed shortly after a Red Arrows display at the 2011 Bournemouth Air Festival.
His plane came down on a riverbank at Throop as the aerobatic display team headed back to Bournemouth Airport.
The inquest was told that his plane over-banked with its nose down, losing height when it should have been climbing.
Residents paid their respects at his memorial in Bournemouth today.
Mayor of Bournemouth Cllr George Farquhar paid his respects this afternoon and left flowers at the Jon Egging memorial located at the top of the East Cliff Zig-Zag.
The mayor said: "‘I am highly honoured and touched to have the privilege of laying a floral tribute in memorial to Jon Egging on the 13th anniversary of his passing.
“I remember moving to Bournemouth in 2011 and the Air Festival being one of the first events I attended and being extremely moved by the courage of Jon Egging to stay with his crippled aircraft to prevent harm to others, this courage was exemplary to his service to his country.”
