A YOUNG girl has been stabbed in a block of flats in Christchurch.
The girl as been taken to hospital with injuries not described as life threatening.
Dorset Police received a report at 5.45pm on Tuesday, August 20 that a girl had sustained stab wounds at an address in Glider Close.
A man aged in his 20s from Christchurch has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
A local woman aged in her 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They both remain in police custody.
An Echo reader said she saw a police helicopter above, armed police and forensics on scene at a block of flats in Grange Road.
She added: "There are police everywhere; the helicopter has been up, there are four ambulances.
"It's all happened within the past hour, a girl has been taken to hospital...
"I then saw police detain somebody and take them away. It's awful, the girl is only eight."
Officers and detectives were seen carrying out door-to-door enquiries while crime scene investigators forensically examined inside and outside the flats.
Meanwhile, police officers had cordoned off the whole block with tape. An air ambulance was scrambled and landed on the field at Christchurch Rugby Club behind Glider Close.
Chief superintendent Stewart Dipple, of Dorset Police, said: “There is an increased policing presence in the area as officers conduct enquiries at the scene.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw what happened, or has information to assist our investigation, to please come forward.
“Our enquiries are in the early stages and we would ask the public not to speculate at this time about the circumstances of the incident.
“I understand this will cause concern and we will have members of the neighbourhood policing team out on patrol over the coming days who can be approached by the public.”
