THE LARGEST working steamship in Britain docked in Poole Quay for all to see.

The heritage steamship regularly visits Poole every August to wow residents with its facilities and offer a chance to meet the crew that keeps the vessel sailing.

Dorset Camera Club member Lewis Johnstone captured photos of the ship at Poole Quay in the evening.

The historic vessel is also a member of the Natural Historic Fleet and serves as a tribute to Britain’s maritime heritage.

In a post on social media, a spokesperson for the steamship said: “We have officially made it down and the Steamship Shieldhall is docked.

“If you’re in the area then please come on down and visit us onboard the Steamship Shieldhall where we have our open days.

“You may be in with a chance to drive our steam engines and not only that, but we do have afternoon tea on board.”

The vessel will also set sail for the Bournemouth Air Festival from August 29 – 31.

The ship will also offer a trip to view the Jurassic Coast, with the Wareham Whalers Shanty Band on August 31 before heading back to its port in Southampton.
