A MAN was arrested after being caught red-handed trying to steal items from a Bournemouth home.

Officers were alerted to an incident on Cavendish Road on August 26 after reports of a suspicious man lurking around the area.

A man was subsequently arrested after being caught in the act of loading a bag with tools and attempting to steal an expensive bike.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth Police said: “Yesterday, a vigilant member of the public reported a suspicious male lurking around gardens in the Cavendish Road area. The suspect was last seen near Cavendish Place.

“Fortunately, C Squad was on duty, and PC Lewis and PC Alfie quickly responded.

“After searching the area, PC Lewis noticed a damaged fence and an abandoned bicycle near a house.

“Following his instincts, he checked the rear of the garage and discovered a smashed window. Inside, he found the suspect, who matched the earlier description, in the process of loading a bag of tools and attempting to steal an expensive mountain bike.

“Caught in the act, the suspect was swiftly detained with the assistance of PC Josh and PC Luke from Boscombe, who helped secure the area.

“After a lengthy shift filled with paperwork and interviews, the suspect has now been remanded in custody and will appear before the next available court on burglary charges.

“A big shout-out to the community for their vigilance.”
