CARLOS Pons Guerra's Mariposa is coming to the Lighthouse in Poole on Tuesday, October 15.
The show will start at 7.45pm with a 12+ age guidance.
Under the flickering neon lights of a Caribbean port, a rent boy and a sailor fall in love, leading one young man to sacrifice his gender for love and a better life.
Mariposa is choreographer Carlos Pons Guerra's queer reimagining of Puccini's opera, Madame Butterfly.
Set in post-revolution Cuba, the operatic dance drama explores the sacrifices made for love and acceptance.
Carlos Pons Guerra, often called "the Pedro Almodovar of dance" by the BBC, is a leading figure in contemporary queer dance.
His work frequently draws from personal experience, focusing on LGBTQ+ narratives, rooted in his Hispanic/Latinx cultural heritage.
Created in 2021, Mariposa challenges the gender and colonial issues in Madame Butterfly, questioning the relevance of such operas today.
The performance is enhanced by an original score from Luis Miguel Cobo.
The cast features Dan Baines as Preston, and Holly Saw as Kate.
While the role of Madame Gertrudis, the brothel owner, will be shared by Elle Taylor-Francis and Jaivant Patel.
