CHRISTMAS may still be more four months away, but Christchurch is already on countdown.

The town has announced its Christmas light switch on will take place on Saturday, November 23.

Between 11am and 7pm, the town centre will be transformed into a 'festive wonderland'.

Christchurch Town Council said it is bringing back the beloved festive tradition after “listening to the community’s strong desire” for a Christmas light switch on event.

The council has partnered with ORA Events Ltd to deliver an ‘unforgettable experience’ for residents and visitors alike.

Chris Farr, director at ORA Event Management, said: "We are delighted to be working with Christchurch Town Council to bring the Christmas lights switch on event to the heart of the community.

“Our team is committed to creating a festive atmosphere that celebrates the spirit of Christchurch and provides a fantastic day out for all ages."

The event promises a variety of entertainment, including live music from headline acts, local bands and school choirs showcasing Christchurch talent.

The Hush Club Disco will make a return to the high street bringing its party energy throughout the day.

Adding to the festive spirit, visitors will be able to meet Father Christmas, enjoy William Cole Funfair rides and meet some of their favourite Christmas icons including Frozen’s Olaf.

Local traders and charities will set up stalls offering food, drinks, crafts, gifts, and games, creating a vibrant market atmosphere along the High Street and in Saxon Square.

Nicole Baddeley, community engagement officer at Christchurch Town Council, said: "The return of the Christmas Lights Switch On event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Christchurch's vibrant community and support local businesses.

“We encourage everyone to join us in celebrating the start of the festive season and making this event a memorable one."

The main event will be at 5pm when the mayor of Christchurch will be joined by an exciting special guest to switch on the dazzling Christmas lights.

The council has allocated a budget of £50,000 for Christmas lighting across the town, tree installations outside of the Old Town Hall as well as the event costs.
