RSPB Arne is to host its first free Dorset Bird Festival at the nature reserve later this month.

Visitors can expect free, interesting talks from conservationists, including Birds of Poole Harbour, as well as behind-the-scenes guided walks to the reserve's hidden lagoon.

Early risers can take part in bird ringing demos, offering an exciting opportunity to see some of the county's feathered friends up-close.

Dorset Bird Festival will also host binocular demonstrations across the weekend, showcasing top brands such as Kowa, Viking and Swarovski.

Normal reserve entry charges apply and alongside café and shop opening, visitors can enjoy a pop-up sausage shack offering locally sourced venison or pork sausage baps.

The RSPB’s Morwenna Alldis said: “Local gin and vodka companies will be offering tasters of their products, and you can get all your Christmas shopping done early from the range of gifts and local products for sale.

“Whether you are new to bird watching, an experienced and committed all-weather birder, or you just fancy sampling some local produce and wares, there will be something for everyone to enjoy this weekend.”

Tickets for the event held on Saturday and Sunday September 20 and 21 are limited and can be booked on RSPB Arne’s website.
