CAN it really be 35 years since Texas inserted themselves into our collective consciousness with the wonderful I Don’t Want A Lover, a tune that still sounds as fresh tonight as it did all those years ago.
Tonight, they brought a celebration of that career to the BIC with a show that spanned their considerable back catalogue and more.
Before Texas took to the stage we were treated to a 45 minute set from the excellent KT Tunstall who may have described the slot as the time when the crowd get used to their seat and settle in but this was anything but a time filler.
KT is an artist who can easily sell out venues in her own right so this was a real treat.
KT accompanied by Andy Burrows delivered a simple stripped back set that included Razorlight's America, as well as crowd favourites Black Horse and the Cherry Tree and Suddenly I See.
Without a doubt one of the best supports you will see this year.
Texas didn’t hang around and went big right from the start opening the show with the iconic guitar rift of I Don’t Want a Lover as Sharleen bounded on stage encouraging the audience to their feet.
They duly obliged and stayed there for the rest of the evening.
The set list was littered with hit after hit much to the delight of the faithful and served as a reminder just how many classic pop songs the band have produced over those 35 years.
Sharleen was keen to encourage the crowd to join in at every opportunity in her own up-tempo slightly sweary way.
Halo, In a Lifetime and Summer Son all put in an appearance which had the audience energised and enjoying themselves.
Sharleen has always enjoyed interacting with the audience and the front woman was on top form as she spoke with the crowd regularly, showing that her passion for performing hasn’t waned at all.
The lights and stage set up were excellent with the backdrop alternating between live footage of the band and clips of their music videos which contributed to the celebratory atmosphere.
As the evening drew to a close Sharleen donned her leathers for an Elvis inspired encore, finishing with a cover of Suspicious Minds and closing a set that was just over two hours.
As the crowd left, it was clear that Texas remain a favourite and no signs of slowing down yet.
