A STAPLE of Bournemouth recently celebrating its 30th year in the town centre is Pub of the Week.

Known for its affordable prices and fast service, The Moon in The Square is undoubtedly a popular spot for residents and tourists.

Pub manager Quique Medina, who has worked at the venue for 12 years, has witnessed its continued high footfall.

He said: “There is a combination of reasons why so many visit our pub.

“Primarily, it is because of our location. We are right in the centre of Bournemouth, next to the gardens and close to the beach.

“But people come back because of the effort we put into our customers satisfaction and good quality service.”

The pub celebrated its 30th anniversary on August 31.

To mark the occasion, the pub was decorated with balloons and the staff dressed up.

Located in Exeter Road, this two-floor pub can accommodate hundreds of people and has a large outdoor terrace.

Quique said: “The terrace is very popular. It is segregated into a smoking and non-smoking area.

“There are planters and fresh flowers and in the evenings it’s a real sun trap.”

Love it or hate it, Wetherspoon's has an extremely large selection of affordable food options, most of which come with a free soft drink or a discounted alcoholic drink.

Menu items range from pub classics such as burgers, bangers and mash and fish and chips to new items such as ramen noodle bowls and sticky Korean chicken.

Quique said he wants to see more people at the pub during breakfast hours and prices have been reduced so more people can afford to eat out.

He said: “We are very established in the area, and our prices competitive. People who are coming in know what to expect.”

The Moon in The Square is a fan favourite for students because of its value for money and proximity to other clubs and bars.

Quique said: “We have so many different types of people, from students to pensioners.

“Depending on what is playing at the cinema or if there is a performance at the BIC, it really changes depending on what is happening in the town."

The pub has cracked down on antisocial behaviour and has a zero-tolerance policy on drugs and violence in and outside of the pub.
