The roast dinner is a classic British dish that many enjoy going out for, with many establishments around Dorset offering a quality version of it.

However, due to the stacked choices around the county, it might be tricky to pick out one to go to.

Therefore, we thought it might be best to ask Daily Echo readers for their recommendations.

We put out a Facebook post asking the question and here are the responses we received.

Best places in Dorset for a roast dinner according to readers

There were more than 200 comments overall on the Facebook post, with spots all around the county being mentioned.

In fact, due to the wide variety of recommendations, it was exceptionally rare for a place to be mentioned more than a couple of times.

However, one that received seven comments was The Old Thatch in Wimborne, with one person adding that it was "the best roast in Dorset".

Another establishment that picked up a few mentions was Rob's Filling Station in Oakdale, which has a 5/5 score on Tripadvisor from 111 reviews.

Offering alfresco dining, the spot has earned plenty of happy reviews from customers, with one sharing on the review site: "This place is so amazing with the best and friendliest people serving the most amazing Sunday Roast. If you get a chance then don’t hesitate to visit you definitely won’t regret it."

Alongside that, The Pear At Parley got four recommendations on the Facebook post.

It received plenty of rave reviews for its roasts on Tripadvisor, with one person writing: "Brilliant family meal for a birthday. Sunday roasts were exceptional. Desserts to die for. Great gardens for kids to burn some steam off."

Another popular choice was The Royal Oak in Milborne St Andrew, with one person commenting that it was: "Hands down best roast ever!".



Discussing the roasts on its website, the restaurant says: "All our meats are sourced from within the Dorset area and we are dedicated to buying seasonal local produce wherever possible.

Other places which had a few mentions included Restaurant Roots in Southbourne, The Pickled Berry in Poole, The Larder House in Southbourne and The Old Beams Inn in Ibsley.

Meanwhile, a few people insisted their home version of a roast dinner was the best, with one saying: "No Restaurants can beat my wife’s Roast potatoes".
