PLANS to make Christchurch a ‘vibrant, prosperous and sustainable town’ have been set out by the council.

Christchurch Town Council has unveiled its Corporate Plan for 2024-2027, and has given residents until September 27 to offer feedback.

The plan presents the town council’s vision for Christchurch, and will help to drive short and long-term goals, while informing budget-setting and expenditure over the coming years.

It focuses on four strategic priorities, with each having a set of specific objectives.

One priority is ‘planning a sustainable future for the town’, which includes plans to develop and implement an asset management plan for the town council’s buildings and green spaces, working towards ‘revitalising’ Barrack Road Recreation Ground with sporting activities and a new community hub building, and creating and developing a town council chamber and offices.

Another priority is ‘supporting people, groups and organisations to help create and maintain a thriving community’. This includes developing an events programme, working with partners to ensure the town remains a safe place, and introducing councillor surgeries.

Christchurch Town Council has also made it a priority to ‘deliver more services locally to meet the needs and aspirations of the community’.

As part of this, it plans to develop the Mudeford Pavilion for wider community use, and continue its investment in the Christmas light display and switch on event, among other objectives.

The fourth priority is for the town council to ‘continue to develop and learn as an organisation’.

This includes changes to meetings, such as investigating the feasibility of introducing live stream meetings, and encouraging the engagement of the public.

Introducing the Corporate Plan, Cllr Paul Hilliard, Mayor of Christchurch, said: “Councillors and officers are excited and committed to deliver this plan and are determined to ensure that Christchurch remains a town that delivers quality services to our residents, local businesses, visitors and the wider community, making it an amazing place to live, work and visit.”

Christchurch Town Council is currently holding a public consultation into the plan.

Residents have until September 27 to have their say.
