A 25FT speedboat was pushed free by Poole RNLI lifeboat station after it became beached on Hook Sands.

Requested to launch at around 4:30pm on September 18, a crew from the lifeboat station helped rescue five people stuck on the speedboat.

Beached on Hook Sands, a notorious sand bar just outside of Poole Harbour, the crew checked that everyone on board was ok before two of the speedboat passengers were taken to the RNLI lifeboat.

A spokesperson for Poole RNLI said: "A crewmember waded across to check everyone was ok, which they were. It was decided to request the D class to attend as it was more suited in the shallow water to get closer and alongside the speedboat, where two people were transferred off the stricken vessel across onto the Atlantic.

"Four volunteer crew entered the water and waded alongside the boat, they then pushed it free.

"The speedboat refloated and was running, the lifeboat escorted the speedboat back through the entrance of the harbour where it was more sheltered, then the two people who were transferred across, returned to the vessel."

The crew stood down at 7pm.
