A DEVELOPER has made changes to its planning application, focusing on creating inclusive housing.
Agora Homes' new development plans to construct nine residential flats at 579-581 Wimborne Road in Bournemouth.
The proposal aligns with the developer's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, which recognises a local need for housing units that cater to individuals with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and autism.
Agora Homes’ director, Charlie Hounsell said: “Our decision to adapt these units is a direct response to the long term and life time needs of the community.
“We are committed to making our developments inclusive and accessible to all and this includes vulnerable adults.”
After consulting with BCP Council and working with Creed Housing, which specialises in creating homes for vulnerable adults, a revised planning application has been submitted.
The new plans include an adapted design of the ground floor and first-floor units, enabling all flats on these floors to be fully wheelchair accessible.
Additionally, the plans outlined further adaptations to the upper floor to provide suitable accommodation for people with life-long support needs.
This application is an alternative proposal to the planning permission granted in February 2024, which would create seven residential flats.
The application site is a 2-storey building that is neighboured on both sides by three and 3.5-storey buildings that comprise commercial units on the ground floor and residential units above.
Key adaptations include redesigned ground and first-floor units that accommodate wheelchair users and hoists for independent living, the installation of a lift for easy access between floors, and the conversion of a ground-floor shop into a communal room for tenants to gather and socialise.
Charlie added: “These changes not only align with our ESG goals but also demonstrate our dedication to creating homes that serve everyone, regardless of their physical abilities.
"This initiative underscores Agora Homes’ broader ESG commitment, focusing on social responsibility and inclusivity.
"By proactively addressing the needs of individuals with physical disabilities, Agora Homes is committed to creating sustainable, inclusive properties that prioritise the well-being of all residents."
