VISITORS flocked to Bournemouth lower gardens and promenade for the 2024 Arts by the Sea festival.

Taking place from September 27-29, Bournemouth’s Art by the Sea festival has drawn the public down to the beach and town centre to see several performances and art exhibitions.

The second day of the festival has been filled with an array of performances which included K*tchen performed by the festival’s 2024 associate artist, Jasmin Edwards.

K*tchen is described as a satirical commentary on women’s roles in both life and art which she explains through her hooping skills.

Three large bubble structures designed by Peruvian sculptor and industrial designer, Renzo B Larrivee, and artist, Zara Pasfield, in the lower gardens seemed to garner the most attention by festival-goers, however.

Named Evanescent, Renzo and Zara built the bubbles as an exploration of light and colour while hoping to help adults “get in touch with [their] inner child and embrace whimsy and wonder”.

At night, the bubbles can be found lit up in a spectacle of colours and will be available to visit throughout the festival.

After the finale was moved a day forward due to yellow warnings given by the Met Office for Sunday afternoon, the public were able to briefly explore the honeycomb structure at the East Cliff Zig Zag.

Festival-goers were invited to write messages on the inside of the honeycomb while it was open, however, to prepare for the fireworks and bonfire later in the evening, it was shut off at around 1pm.

In Bournemouth town square, a display of tricks on bikes, skateboards, and scooters wowed audiences while theatre groups Ramshacklicious and Hijinx did two performances of its production, Truth.

The play champions performers with learning difficulties and autism and delves into the topics of human emotion and the ideologies of power and control.
