A PEDESTRIAN was hit by a bus in Bournemouth which led to a maze of road closures in the town centre.

Dorset Police responded to the report at around 7.0am September 29 and once on scene it cordoned and partially closed Commercial Road near the junction with St Michael’s Road.

Police presence and road closures spread down to the BIC roundabout in Exeter Road and Terrace Road with surrounding roads affected by the closures.

Sergeant Lee Savage, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are carrying out enquiries as we seek to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses to please make contact with us.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the vicinity and may have captured relevant dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.”

The casualty was taken to hospital after they sustained serious injuries and they’re condition is currently not known at this time.

Morebus have confirmed that the bus that was involved in the incident was one of its M1 buses and that before the crash, it had been driving along its normal route.

Morebus area operations manager, Mike Freeborn, said: “One of our M1 buses was involved in an incident at Poole Hill this morning. Early indications suggest the bus was proceeding normally along the carriageway when it made contact with a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment. We are not currently aware of the extent of their injuries but wish them a full and speedy recovery.

The bus service shared that nobody on the bus had been hurt but, understandably, the bus driver has been left “shaken” after the incident and being supported by the management team.

The bus sustained minor damage and engineers from the company could be seen in the cordon assisting police.

“The bus sustained minor damage and is being dealt with by our engineers,” Mike added.

“The road was closed by police, and our services have been delayed and diverted as a result.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding whilst we work to minimise any disruption to our services.”
