RETAILER WH Smith will close in Bournemouth town centre in the new year, the Echo has been told.

A source close to the business has said the high street stationary store is to leave Old Christchurch Road as early as January.

In another major blow for Bournemouth town centre, the soon-to-be vacant unit is currently being marketed by estate agent Goadsby.

The shop is available to let by way of a new full repairing and insuring lease, term and rent review pattern by negotiation, at a commencing rent of £150,000 per annum.

WH Smith has again been approached for more details by the Echo.

A spokeswoman earlier this week did not confirm if the Old Christchurch Road branch would close, but instead said: “We keep our store lease agreements under regular review, including at our Old Christchurch Road store in Bournemouth and will share updates on any changes to the store in future.”

Meanwhile the Post Office inside will remain open for the time being, but a spokeswoman told the Echo it hasn’t been told by WH Smith if it is closing.
