NEIL Duncan-Jordan, the new Labour MP for Poole brands the potential sale of Poole Civic Centre an “act of vandalism” (Echo 28 Sept). But that act was done years ago. It was done back in January 2017 when Poole's Tory councillors voted to abolish Poole and join a new super council, the future BCP Council.

Where was Mr Duncan-Jordan? Where was his Labour Party back then?

I remember it well. The Conservatives were warned of the consequences. Poole Civic Centre would become history and all the wondrous savings set out to justify their new super council were plain nonsense. The new council would still be struggling financially and Poole would be governed from Bournemouth Town Hall. But the Tories wouldn't listen. “You don't know that,” they repeatedly insisted. They had the majority so they prevailed.

Today BCP Council is the new reality. And it is cash-strapped because the magic money tree never appeared.

So now is not the time for raw indignation, while calls for “proper consultation” are seven years too late.

Today, what is required is to find a fitting use for Poole Civic Centre that justifies its £230k annual upkeep and without flogging it off to stave-off BCP's bankruptcy. That's if you can.
