THE visitors centre at Hengistbury Head is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a weekend packed with free events.

Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre was opened in 2014 by wildlife expert and television presenter Chris Packham.

Over the last ten years, it has been used “to help explain the area, its history, wildlife, archaeology and geology to visitors, and it’s a wonderful way to step back in time and see how our ancestors lived.”

Mark Holloway, parks projects, funding and policy manager for BCP Council, said: “The centre represents all the amazing aspects of Hengistbury Head.

“The visitors centre was created to bring that knowledge to the public and schools.”

Since opening the centre, it has welcomed over a million visitors from all over the country.

From Friday, October 4, to Sunday, October 6, the centre will host over 30 free events catering to all ages.

Events include birdwatching, night walks, ancient crafts, storytelling, stargazing, meeting the sheep, and gin tasting.
