A WARNING has been issued over rogue traders after a resident nearly forked out £2,500 for services.

Lymington and New Milton Police has received a report of rogue traders operating in the New Milton area, offering roofing and driveway repair services.

They are said to be driving a white van, with writing on the side which details the work they carry out, including walls and algae removal.

On one occasion, a victim nearly parted with £2,500, but was able to cancel the payment prior to any money being lost.

Lymington and New Milton Police warned residents of the incident via a social media post, adding: “The purpose of this post is not to alarm you, but to simply make you aware of the recent incident and what to be looking out for.

"If you have any information about this recent incident, please call 101 and quote incident number 44240422000.

"If you witness anything similar where you live, or any other suspicious activity, please get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity."

The force then issued its 'top 10 tips on how to deal with doorstep sellers'.

These included check the trader’s identity, always shop around for the best price, read the small print, and trust your instincts.
