A WOMAN suffered a serious head injury in an early hours incident in Bournemouth town centre.
Officers were alerted to reports of an altercation between a man and a woman at around 2am in Exeter Road this morning, Sunday, October 6.
It is reported that the victim, a woman in her 30s, was hospitalised with a serious head injury.
It is also reported that the man and the woman were not known to each other.
A cordon was briefly installed around an area of Exeter Road for investigation into the incident.
A man has been arrested and remains in custody.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “At 2.33am on Sunday 6 October 2024, Dorset Police received a report of an altercation between a man and a woman, who are not known to each other, in Exeter Road in Bournemouth.
"Officers attended and, following enquiries, a 24-year-old man from Wiltshire was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in police custody at this time.
“The victim – a local woman aged in her 30s – was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious head injury.
“A police cordon was put in place to allow officers to examine the scene. It has since been stood down.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area and officers can be approached with any concerns.”
