A POPULAR chain gym has announced it will be opening its Bournemouth town centre site early next year, with limited discounted memberships on offer.

JD Gyms will replace the former Wilko unit in Richmond Gardens Shopping Centre, Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth.

It was previously announced that the gym would be opening its doors at the end of 2023 however, the company is now advertising its launch date for early 2025.

JD Gyms website says the brand new gym will offer a “huge selection of industry-leading equipment set in stylish surroundings”.

It is set to include a large amount of free weights and a selection of plate loaded machines including brands such as Hammer Strength.

The gym will also contain cardio equipment, rowing equipment Consept2 ergs and a dedicated glute zone.

The website teases the launch of JD Hybrid zone, a separate section dedicated to hybrid training.

Advertisements spread on social media said: “Amazing new 24/7 gym coming really soon.

“JD Gyms Bournemouth Central is opening in early 2025.

“Our game-changing new gym will be packed with top-notch cardio, strength and functional equipment.

“Plus dedicated glute kit and bespoke hybrid training zone.

“Access to our saunas is also included in the price.”

JD Gyms is offering an early-bird offer for the first 200 members, with the first month costing only £5 with no joining fee.

Bosses previously said they were excited to open the site and said: "Bournemouth is a fantastic location.”

They said the new gym aims to provide residents with ‘affordable and stylish facilities’, featuring more than 250 pieces of kit and 300 classes every month.

Wilko closed in February 2022, with its neighbour, Lidl, closing later the same year.

Low footfall and issues with rent were blamed for making both businesses unviable in their location.

The owners of Richmond Gardens Shopping Centre, Evolve Estates, previously said it hoped to make some “exciting announcements” about tenants coming to both the former Wilko site and the Lidl unit.
