A SAINSBURY’S delivery van collapsed, causing people’s shopping to fall across the road.

The delivery van “spilt its load” on the A31 at Palmersford Roundabout in Ferndown at around 4pm on Sunday, October 13.

An image from the incident shows the body of the back of the van had come completely off the chassis and was on the road.

Meanwhile, people’s food orders were scattered around.

Police officers from East Dorset police put in a partial closure of the section of roundabout from Amesysford Roundabout where the stranded van was while recovery was arranged.

Dorset Police's spokeswoman said: "We received a report at 3.35pm on Sunday 13 October 2024 that a van had lost its load on the A31 at the Palmersford Roundabout in Ferndown.

"Officers attended and a road closure was put in place while recovery was arranged. The vehicle was recovered and road cleared at around 6.20pm."

Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “We are investigating an incident that happened yesterday afternoon and involved one of our delivery vans.

"We have been in touch with a small number of groceries online customers whose orders were affected, so that we can try to reschedule their delivery."

East Dorset police officers said at the time: "East Dorset NPT officers are dealing with a delivery van that has spilt its load on the A31 Palmersford Roundabout, Ferndown.

"There is a partial closure on the roundabout affecting traffic travelling from Ameysford Roundabout. "
