AN EVENT honouring Black History Month is set to take place at Bournemouth University.

The Community Action Network, BCP Race Cultural and Diversity Staff Network, Dorset Healthcare and University NHS Foundation Trust have collaborated together to create an event of inspiring stories, live music, face painting and more.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Join us this Black History Month 2024 as we embrace the theme 'Reclaiming Narratives'.

"It’s time to tell of our stories, celebrate our heritage, and ensure our voices are heard

“In today’s world, stories are powerful tools that shape how we understand our past, present, and future.

“For too long, the history of Black communities has been told through lenses that often misrepresent, oversimplify, or entirely overlook the rich and diverse experiences of those who lived it.

“This theme is not just about revisiting history; it’s about taking ownership of the stories that define our culture, our contributions, and our very identify.

“This is your chance to be part of something bigger.”

The free event will take place on October 17 from 6pm – 8pm at Bournemouth University’s Fusion building.
