A BUSY high street supermarket has announced the closure of its customer toilets following reports of “misuse”.

Sainsbury’s has confirmed it had no choice but to close the customer toilets at the super store at Pitwines Close in Poole town centre.

Several residents have taken to social media to criticize the decision, saying the closure shows a disregard for people with disabilities.

One person said: “It’s so sad. It makes it difficult to visit Poole as there are no public toilets.”

One resident said the closure has made Poole a "hostile place" adding that, for elderly people access to public toilets is a necessity.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said, “Due to ongoing challenges with misuse, we have made the difficult decision to close the customer toilets at our Poole store.

“Our colleagues can direct customers to other nearby toilets and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
