A VINTAGE Rolex wristwatch from the 1960s is estimated to sell for thousands of pounds an upcoming auction.

Sherborne-based Charterhouse is to host its two-day auction of silver, jewellery and watches on October 28 and 29.

Auctioneer Richard Bromwell said: “The Rolex Submariner was bought new by the owner in 1967, when Hair the love-rock musical came out, with his first pay packet.

“Working as an engineer he wanted a watch which would be durable and practical, which it was.”

Moving forward 57 years and the watch is showing its age. With a replacement strap, heavily scratched glass and needing a service, it is a rare ‘metres before feet’ Rolex Submariner.

Being one of hundreds of lots of watches, silver and jewellery, viewing for the auction starts on Monday, October 28 at The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne.

All lots, with live internet bidding, are available on charterhouse-auction.com.
