POOLE lifeboat was called out to a person who was stranded in the sea at Bournemouth Pier.
The RNLI was called to the water on Saturday, October 19 at about 9.30pm to rescue the person who was in difficulty at the west side of the pier.
Volunteers onboard said the swells were breaking close to the shore as the lifeboat “carefully manoeuvred in and gained sight” of the person.
Meanwhile, HM Coastguard’s rescue teams on the pier helped by illuminating the area.
The lifeboat manoeuvred as close as it could in the swells and a crew member threw a throw line at the person.
The person held onto the line while the lifeboat crew pulled them towards the lifeboat and lifted them onboard.
With the person being extremely cold the lifeboat crew wrapped them up and headed back to the lifeboat station and to a waiting ambulance.
Poole helm Dave Riley said: "We’re thankful to the bystander who called 999 and alerted the coastguard, any delay could have resulted in a very different outcome.”
This was the 102nd launch by Poole RNLI this year.
