Police have issued a warning about a new scam targeting the public in Bournemouth.
Scammers have been approaching people at petrol stations, claiming they are stranded and in need of money.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We’ve had reports of individuals approaching members of the public in Bournemouth and surrounding areas with a worrying scam.
“They claim to be stuck and need money to pay someone to fill up their vehicle, saying they can’t work without it.”
Police warned that these people might offer personal details, names, and even belongings to make the story seem real.
Warning signs include a varying storyline that follows the same format. The scammers reportedly claim to be self-employed and unable to work without help.
