A MAN in his 70s has died after emergency services rushed to a concern for welfare of a person in the water at Poole Quay.

Police were called to the scene at around 1.30pm on Tuesday, October 22 along with the ambulance and fire services, coastguard and RNLI.

A cordon was put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident, and was lifted at around 2.45pm.

A business manager on the quay said ‘it was the quickest response he had ever seen’ after reports that someone had fallen into the water.

He did not witness the incident but said emergency services filled the front of Poole Quay.

Dorset Police have confirmed that the man involved was pronounced dead at the scene and that his next of kin has been notified.

A spokesperson said: “Dorset Police received a report at 1.24pm on Tuesday 22 October 2024 raising concern for the welfare of a man in the water at The Quay in Poole.

“Officers attended with the ambulance and fire services, as well as the coastguard and RNLI.

“Very sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM coroner has been notified.

“The man’s next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“A cordon was put in place to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

“It was lifted at around 2.45pm.

The ambulance service attended shortly after the police and witnesses reported seeing an air ambulance in the area.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 13:26hrs on Tuesday 22 October to an incident in Poole.

"We sent one double-crewed ambulance, a critical care car and an operations officer to the scene”.

The RNLI and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service assisted with recovering the man from the water.

The RNLI said: "Poole inshore lifeboat was requested to launch by UK coastguard at 1.30pm (Tuesday 22 October) to an incident on Poole Quay."

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 1:12pm today to assist Police with an incident at Poole Quay.

"One fire engine along with the technical rescue team from Poole attended and assisted Police and the RNLI with a rescue from water. 

"Our stop came through at 2:08pm."
