A SHOPLIFTER who went on a spree of crime will spend Christmas behind bars.

Quincy Rufus Digby Hopkins already admitted his guilt to nine thefts at hearings in front of Southampton’s magistrates on September 18 and 30.

The 26-year-old stole hundreds of pounds worth of meat products, leaving the stores on each occasion without making any attempt to pay for the items.

His shoplifting spree happened at Budgens in Poplar Crescent, Morrisons Daily in Hightown Road and Tesco Express in The Furlong – all in Ringwood – between August 15 and September 22.

Ringwood resident Hopkins was jailed at a court hearing on October 21 for 16 weeks

Sergeant Chris Pell, of Ringwood and Fordingbridge neighbourhood policing team, said after the hearing: “I’m pleased to see Hopkins has been placed behind bars.

“His shoplifting has affected many businesses in our area. As a team, we will always do everything we can to make sure those who commit crime in the Ringwood area are held accountable for their actions.

“This sentencing should send a clear message to others who are thinking about stealing from the businesses in our area.

“It will not be tolerated and we will work hard to bring you before the courts, where you will face the consequences.”
