THE police were called to a school on Friday morning over problems with cars stopping on yellow zig zags.

Traffic officers were called to Bournemouth School for Girls in Castle Gate Close during the school run of October 25.

Officers gave words of advice to some of the parents caught parking “unacceptably” and fines were also handed out.

Dorset Traffic Cop’s spokesman said: “These lines are crucial for ensuring the safety of children, as vehicles stopped here can obscure the view of both children and drivers, posing a serious risk.

“One excuse given was ‘everyone else does it, so I just copied them’. However, this behaviour is unacceptable.

“Drivers who parked or stopped on the zig-zags were issued fixed penalty notices.

“We understand that dropping children off at school can be frustrating due to heavy traffic and the rush to get to work. However, there is no excuse for endangering children's safety by contravening the zig-zags outside schools.

“We would like to thank the majority of parents/guardians who use safe and legal areas to drop children off at school.”
