A POOLE-BASED skatepark design and build company has won an industry award for its work on a newly opened plaza.

Maverick Skateparks was awarded first place in the commercial photo category of the Golden Trowel Awards for its use of decorative concrete in the Hove Beach Plaza’s new skatepark.

The scheme is described as a “landmark” for Maverick, and part of Brighton and Hove council’s multi-million regeneration of its seafront.

Delivered by main contractor Morgan Sindall, the new sprawling sports complex also includes a new pump track and a 600 metre-squared roller rink.

John Grant, awards organiser and specification manager at PICS Ltd, said: “Maverick Industries has created a skatepark at Hove in Sussex where the use of geometric shapes and colours has made an artwork of the concrete form. They are worthy winners this year, again.”

Maverick previously picked up a Golden Trowel Award in 2019 for its work for Newquay Town Council on the design and installation of the Concrete Waves skatepark project.

John said: “There is always a lively debate among the panel, who do not know which companies have submitted the images until after the decision has been made, and they usually go away more informed over the possibilities of using concrete rather than alternatives.”
