A POOLE pub that has just undergone a major transformation to improve its appearance is the Daily Echo’s Pub of the Week.
The Lord Wimborne in Lagland Street offers traditional food and classic beverages.
The pub first opened in 2002 and has just completed an £850,000 refurbishment.
But, the history of the Lord Wimborne is what makes the pub whole.
Lord Wimborne, whose father owned an iron company supplying railways, came into a vast amount of land in the Poole area in the mid-1800s.
His wife, Lady Spencer-Churchill, was involved in improving schemes and housing for Poole.
A spokesperson for the watering hole said: “JD Wetherspoon's USP is primarily Real Ale but we aim to over as wide a range of products as possible to really cover all bases and cater for a broad customer base.
“At the centre of it all is value and this has been near the top of all priorities since the company was founded in 1979.”
Kevin Young, manager of The Lord Wimborne, said: “Myself and the team here have spent the last 18 months focusing on improving speed of service as well as standards and we're really proud of what we've achieved and how well we represent the company."
He added: “We have added in extra garden tables and chairs, had some planting and landscaping carried out.
“We have had the kitchen extended with lots of equipment replaced or upgraded for newer spec (and added pizza to our menu).
“The most recent works have included full remodelling of all three sets of customer toilets with all new fittings, a full dispense upgrade now with up to 12 real ales and 46* draught lager and cider taps to improve speed of service, a brand new bespoke Poole themed carpet, full redecoration with new colour scheme and additional lighting, tables and seating.
“We want to welcome new and returning customers and continue our great service and offering fantastic value.
“We are committed to remaining here in the Poole town centre and really want to build our community relationships.”
