POOLE police station was evacuated on Wednesday morning after a suspected unexploded bomb was brought in.
One witness said an elderly woman brought in what looked like a "rusty metal object, possibly an incendiary device" that was found earlier in Canford Cliffs.
Officers and staff were evacuated from the station in Wimborne Road at 10am on November 6 and a cordon was put in place while the explosive ordnance disposal team were brought in.
Eventually, by the early afternoon, it was determined that the woman had brought in the "tail fin of a device".
Dorset Police’s spokesman said the device was removed and not explosive, with the building – including the enquiry office – being fully reopened.
The spokesman said: "We received a report at 10.07am on Wednesday 6 November 2024 that a piece of possible unexploded ordnance had been brought into Poole police station, having been located in the Canford Cliffs area.
"The building [was] partially closed and a cordon [was] put in place as a precaution as we seek expert advice from an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
"The enquiry office [was] temporarily closed and we would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding as we responded to this incident."
