SPEEDING fines in Dorset surpassed more than 50,000 in 12 months.
A Freedom of Information request submitted by a member of the public, from April 1, 2023, until March 31, 2024, shows there were a reported 54,101 speeding fines.
It was also revealed the A338 between Cooper Dean and Blackwater Junction was a hotspot for speeding fines with 6,270 offences reported.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police and its partners are committed to reducing road casualties and will continue to deploy resources to detect those that choose to drive at speeds above the legal limit.
“Increased public intelligence - including that received from our dedicated Community Speed Watch (CSW) teams - allows the tactical deployment of road safety resources to locations where speeding is identified as a concern.
“The increasing number of CSW teams spread over the county is assisting in detecting more drivers who choose to drive at speeds which put themselves and others at risk.
“We welcome intelligence received from members of the public in our bid to decrease the number of casualties on roads across the county.”
