A BAR in Westbourne has unveiled its expansion plans, with owners hopeful to create a new space for the community.
Camden Bar, located in Seamoor Road, is preparing to expand into a unit at the back of the premises.
The new space will be called 'The Green Room' as a nod to the backrooms of gigs and music venues for bands and artists of Camden Town.
Once open, it will be accessible through Camden’s beer garden, and be used for both events and private hire.
It will feature a fully functional bar and is expected to have space for up to 50 people.
A spokesperson for Camden said: “Rather than just an extension to the bar, it's going to be more of an event space which is not only going to be used for private hire for parties, but we have always wanted the ability to put on more artistic events such as comedy shows, theatre productions, poetry nights and everything else in between, similarly to Chaplin’s over in Boscombe who obviously provide a brilliant musical programme.
“We want to give people something more to come out to in Westbourne than just having a couple of pints and some food.
“It really is going to be more of a community space, and we are already in talks with Arts University Bournemouth and Bournemouth University about giving students an outlet for them to use for some exposure within Westbourne. And if anyone is interested in making use of the space do get in touch.”
The owners hope to have a soft launch for The Green Room at the beginning of December.
As reported, they have already submitted an application to BCP Council to extend the bar's existing licensed premises into ‘a neighbouring unit’.
It was initially unknown whether this neighbouring unit would be the Moka Pot café at 44 Seamoor Road.
However, the spokesperson for Camden quickly clarified: “It’s going to be an extension into a unit at the back of the premises with access through our beer garden. Moka Pot are still our lovely neighbours and aren't going anywhere.”
