A BOURMEMOUTH teacher who failed to disclose his previous teaching employment has been banned from teaching indefinitely.
The panel found that Mr Martin James had breached teaching standards.
Mr Martin James worked at Epiphany School on Shillingstone Drive, Bournemouth.
In his application to Bearwood School he did not disclose his previous employment at St Luke’s Church of England Primary School.
He also falsely stated to Bearwood School that during the period from July 2020 to March 2022 he was not working at any school.
In the private misconduct hearing, Mr James admitted that his actions amounted to unacceptable professional conduct and/or conduct that may bring the profession into disrepute.
According to the prohibition document, Mr James also stated that every day he feels a great deal of shame, regret and remorse although he did not elaborate as to how or why he felt remorseful for his actions and the impact or potential impact on anyone other than himself and his family.
A member of the panel had to 'consider that the public has a high expectation of professional standards of all teachers and that the public might regard a failure to impose a prohibition order as a failure to uphold those high standards.'
They concluded: "In weighing these considerations, I have had to consider the matter from the point of view of an “ordinary intelligent and well-informed citizen.
“The panel decided that the public interest considerations outweighed the interests of Mr James.
"The repeated nature of Mr James’ behaviour, current lack of insight and the perceived associated risk of repetition was a significant factor in forming that opinion.”
The panel did not find any evidence that Mr James had shown insight into his actions or remorse beyond the impact that his actions had on him, his reputation and his family members.
He has been prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children’s home in England.
Mr Martin James can apply for the prohibition order to be set aside, but not until October 31, 2026.
