A NEW Forest Country pub with a focus on good quality locally sourced food is Pub of the Week.

The Trusty Servant Inn has been called the ‘friendliest country pub in the New Forest’, boasting above-average food and service.

Jack Hussy has been managing the pub for more than two years.

He said: “We are a family-run pub.

“It’s a great spot for meeting people, we have customers from all walks of life coming from all over as well as a lovely group of core locals.”

One of the selling points of The Trusty Servant Inn is its location.

Bang in the centre of Lyndhurst, the pub is the perfect spot for a post-walk pint.

Jack said: “Being in the New Forest, we have a lot of animals coming up to the pub.

“At the moment it is pig season, so they are all around and everyone loves to see them. But we get horses, donkeys and cows, they’re almost always here you’d be pretty unlucky to miss them.”

The food at this venue is described as ‘traditional pub classics’.

All the food is cooked to order and, where possible, locally sourced.

Jack said: “We get all our meat and veg from local suppliers. We use a butcher who is based near the pub.”

The pub stocks locally sourced ales along with products from the New Forest-based distillery 820 Spirits.

Built in the 1500s, the building has been a pub since the 17th century and is rich in history.

Jack said: “We are a small, cosy pub, with open fires and exposed brick.

“We have a large pub garden which during the is usually packed with people having a pint and sitting in the sun.”

The beer garden is on two levels and has a decking area with tables and chairs. Its back gate leads directly to Lyndhurst village green and walking paths.

In the garden, there is a heated country barn, which can be used for functions such as weddings and parties.

Jack added: “We stand out because of the quality of our food and our service, they are both just as good as they can be.”
