A SCULPTURE to honour Robert Louis Stevenson has been commissioned.
Artist Tim Ward will create a prominent 2.5 metre high sculpture depicting Robert Louis Stevenson’s head in two halves.
Tim was the sculptor who designed the Jon Egging memorial on East Cliff.
One side of the new sculpture will be made of corten and the other in marine grade stainless steel.
Revd Chris Colledge, founder of Friends of Skerryvore, said: “This playing with the notion of dark and light, Hyde and Jekyll, as well as conveying the multi-faceted nature of the author and his brilliant story telling.
“The 3D sculpture is to split in two and the neck 'plinth' will incorporate images of his most famous books and quotations.
“The artist is wanting to engage with the local community and no better than ‘The Friends of Skerryvore' that care for the site where Robert Louis Stevenson lived and wrote Dr Jekkyll and Mr.Hyde.”
Tim will be joining Friends of Skerryvore for the group’s final meeting of the year on Saturday, November 16, between 9.30am and 12noon.
The group will be tidying up Skerryvore garden in Alum Chine Road for the winter and are asked to take any refreshments required.
Some tools will be required, however people are asked to take any themselves that might make the job easier.
