A VAN containing fireworks exploded, causing parts of the roof to land in a nearby field.
A Ford Transit carrying fireworks caught fire, leading to an explosion while travelling past Ashley Wood Golf Club in Blandford.
The B3082, from Blandford to Wimborne Road, remains closed following the incident, which was reported to Dorset Police at 9.49 pm on Friday, November 8.
Firefighters from Wimborne and Blandford attended the scene and remained throughout the night to ensure there was no further risk to the public.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police Traffic Cops said: "During the fire, there was an explosion, which caused the roof and rear doors to bubble and the side panels to blow out. Part of the roof landed in a nearby field.”
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Recovery is en route, and the local authority has been contacted to assess whether the carriageway requires resurfacing before the road can be reopened.
Road closures are in place from the Wimborne end at the True Lovers Knot pub in Tarrant Keyneston and the Blandford end at the entrance road to Ashley Wood Golf Club.
While smaller vehicles can take side roads, large vehicles are advised to avoid the area.
Traffic remains light at this time.
