A MAIN route in Poole will close eastbound on Wednesday while Wessex Water carries out work.

The utility company will close Herbert Avenue eastbound on Wednesday, November 13 to enable a “temporary solution” to the sewer to be put in place.

Wessex Water will install the temporary pipe in the pavement from Herbert Avenue outside Horizon Honda Poole round to the point of a collapse in Ringwood Road.

But further work will need to be done in the new year, the cabinet member responsible for the roads Andy Hadley said.

He added: “We appreciate Southern Gas Network and Wessex Water for getting on with the emergency repairs and we know their crews have worked hard in the interests of public safety to complete these as quickly as possible.”

BCP Council has required Wessex Water to tanker the sewage away as the sewer is unusable and further works at that location are “unacceptable” in combination with other work, it said.

The work will bring more disruption to Poole for the day, but BCP Council said it has been commissioned now the work in Alder Road, carried out by SGN, has been finished.

A Wessex Water spokesman said: “The collapsed sewer pipe underneath Ringwood Road in Poole will be replaced with a temporary pipe ready for full repairs at a later date, to avoid worsening traffic across the town.

“The temporary pipe will be installed in the pavement from Herbert Avenue outside Horizon Honda Poole round to the point of the collapse on Ringwood Road, with a one-way closure on Herbert Avenue in the direction of Ringwood Road in place from 9.30am on Wednesday morning. We expect the work to be completed by 7am on Thursday morning (14 November).

“We will liaise again with BCP Council to agree a date for the sewer repair to begin and ensure that any associated traffic management measures are well-publicised.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
