A WOMAN says she feels ‘unsafe’ at work after a brick was thrown through the window of her clothing store.
Hunts Menswear at Christchurch Road, Boscombe, was broken into on Tuesday, November 12, after a person threw a brick through a window and “grabbed what they could”.
The store owner, Lotty DeBeer, said she arrived at work the following morning and was alerted to a “huge hole in the window.”
Lotty said: “When I went to look at the damage, there was a hole more than a meter across, and a brick had been thrown through.
“They grabbed everything they could from the window display.”
The thief stole four tweed jackets valued at £150-£200 and some shirts. Lotty said the break-in will cost the business around £1000 in total.
According to reports, the hole was too small to climb through, and Lotty said: “The forensic team visited the store and said it was a good job they didn’t attempt to climb through because it was unstable and likely would have fallen out and might have killed them if it dropped”.
Lotty added that she feels unsafe coming to work following the incident and that knowing someone broke into her shop feels “very intrusive.”
She said: “It’s just horrible; I work here six days a week and work very hard.
“I hate to think that someone thought they can come and take things. I don’t feel particularly safe here now.”
The police attended Hunts Menswear the following day, with forensics to carry out investigations.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 10.56am on Wednesday, November 13. that a window of a shop in Christchurch Road has been smashed and a number of jackets and shirts had been stolen.
“The incident is reported to have occurred at around 10.45pm on Tuesday, November 12.
“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.”
Hunts Menswear has CCTV cameras inside the shop; however, Lotty said she will install several on the outside to prevent break-ins from recurring.
She added: “I love Boscombe, it’s a really bohemian place to live. I’m just really hoping this was a one off thing.”
