A PARENT has voiced concerns after their child was involved in an incident involving what they believed to be a weapon while at school.

The parent, who has asked to remain anonymous, said they received a call regarding an incident at Broadstone Middle School involving what the parent believed to be a knife; however, it was confirmed to be a modified pen.

They said: "The children involved were terrified. Some of them have refused to go back to school out of fear.”

A spokesman for the school said: “There was an incident in the playground during which one child reacted to others.

“At the time, he was holding a modified pen, but he handed it to a teacher close by.

“It was not a knife, and no one was threatened.”

The school said it has an open-door policy and would have been happy to discuss the incident with parents.

The spokesperson added: “We are following our behaviour policy for children, which contributes to a safe, inclusive and happy school environment.”

Dorset Police was not contacted about this incident, and no one was injured.
