A PETITION has been launched in an attempt to keep Mudeford Wood Preschool at its current site.
As reported last week, the preschool has been asked to leave Mudeford Wood Community Centre in July 2025 after 'violating its terms'.
More than 1,000 people have already signed the petition, even though it only launched on November 12.
The petition was created by Alexander Kyrillou, a current parent at the preschool.
Alexander said: “The preschool has always felt like a cornerstone of the community, providing a safe and nurturing environment for the children and offering support to their families.
“The news left me feeling unsettled and worried about the impact this would have on the kids, their families, and the staff who had poured their hearts into creating a positive learning space for the past 30 plus years.”
On the online petition, Alexander said: “We understand that decisions like these are complex, but there must be room for dialogue and reconsideration.”
The decision made by Mudeford Wood Community Trust, has caused a lot of upset amongst parents and residents.
Alexander said the creation of a petition was the best course of action to rally people together.
He said he feels a deep connection with the preschool, saying: “We trust Mudeford Wood Preschool and after the loss of our baby, in 2019 to SIDS we needed Keaton to be in an environment with people we could trust.”
In a statement addressing parents and carers, Mudeford Wood Preschool said: “I wanted to assure you that we do not break any statutory health and safety or fire regulations.”
Haze Burke, a parent of a child currently attending the preschool, said: “I’m deeply concerned about the proposed closure of this beloved facility on such short notice.
“My daughter, after recovering from a serious illness, faced significant developmental delays.
“The caring environment at Mudeford Wood has provided her with stability, routine, and progress that felt unimaginable just a year ago.
“She absolutely loves attending, and to say this preschool has transformed her life is no exaggeration.”
Emily Hernon, manager of Mudeford Wood Preschool, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the wonderful support that we have received from our families and all corners of our local community.
“We are so proud to be at the heart of that community and seeing everyone come together has made us more determined than ever to find a resolution with the Mudeford Wood Community Trust.”
The Daily Echo contacted the Mudeford Wood Community Trust for a comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
