A MAN from Ferndown who claims to be the UK's oldest working DJ has no plans to pause his passion for music as he prepares to turn 85 next month.

Peter Shaw is ready for an exciting Christmas Eve event at The Hamworthy Club, Wimborne, where he will be performing with his band, Rockin’ the Joint.

The Hamworthy Club is a musical home for Peter where he has been doing shows for the past ten years.

Peter said: “We're old friends. I've been booking Rockin’ the Joint for 20 years. And they're coming down here.

"Everybody's excited about it. I’ve been doing events here for a long time now. People come here to enjoy, dance and listen to music. They're not gonna hear the music of their generation anywhere else.

"They come for it from Portsmouth, Southampton and all over Hampshire.”

Describing the enthusiasm for the event, Peter said “I will be having the best night out I could possibly have. I've good assistance while getting good help from a couple of solid people. At my age, I'm loving being able to do it and being there actually doing what I love.”

Peter started his DJ career in early 20s when he was living in London.

Music has taken him everywhere in the UK from Newcastle to Nottingham.

While he enjoys classical artists like Frank Sinatra, his willingness to explore new genres and styles has been instrumental in his growth and improvement as a DJ.

He said: “I don't want to get stuck in one genre that some people, if it's not that they don't want to know, I appreciate good music, whatever, wherever it comes from, whatever genre it is.

"If it's done well, I want to hear it. I appreciate every range of all kinds of music, as there's so much good music around out there.”

Peter, who celebrates his 85th birthday on December 14, said: "I couldn't walk away from the music business.”

“If I'm not going to wake up tomorrow morning. I'd be happy I wouldn't be bothered. That doesn't bother me. I love living life. You need to live it. And if you're not living life, you're dying.”
