Bournemouth's town centre is something that can boast several great features, including a wide range of restaurants, the BH2 complex and parks such as Lower Gardens.

However, there could always be room for improvement and it's always interesting to see what local people would want added to it.

Therefore, we asked Daily Echo readers on Facebook what the one thing missing from Bournemouth's town centre was.

Here's what people had to say on the matter.

What do Daily Echo readers believe is missing from Bournemouth town centre?

There were more than 500 comments left on the Facebook post and many of them had very similar answers.

The most prominent theme that emerged was that people wanted a greater variety of shops, as seen in some other spots around southern England, like Westquay in Southampton.

One reader commented: "A modern west quay style shopping centre on the car park running around the back of the Pavillion, with a set of independent small shop units and alfresco restaurants complimenting this along Westover Road".

Giving a more specific answer related to the shops, one wrote: "Perhaps more independents would be the best option. More local businesses and less of the vape shops."

Meanwhile, one mentioned the centre incorporating something like a roller skating rink and a Eureka Museum could also be useful.

They posted: "Quality array of shops like Winchester, Windsor and Bath. A child friendly inter active museum like Eureka and a roller skating rink".

Other features that popped up included a year-round permanent ice rink, such as seen with SKATE ice rink in the build-up to the Christmas period.

That reader wrote: "Shops, department stores, cleanliness, year round Indoor market, covered area to sit when it's raining, and a year round permanent ice rink."

Similar interests were expressed by others, with other leisure facilities such as a swimming pool mentioned.

One reader shared: "Have always missed the bic swimming pool with wave machine and gradual depths. Kids slide and bigger slide. Permanent ice rink, more shops that stay open. I miss Debenhams and bigger stores like m&s."

Finally, a theme that was expressed by a few people was how the town centre needed some proper department stores, especially with the likes of Debenhams and Beales having closed in recent years.
