DORSET-BASED forecasters have said where snow is most likely to fall in the county. 

Bournemouth forecaster Dorset Snow said on Twitter/X that current conditions mean snow could be falling in most areas, although it will be sleet along the coastline. 

It comes amid a yellow weather warning for west Dorset up to Bere Regis, Milton Abbas and Wool that was issued by the Met Office. 

No weather warning is in place for Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, north Dorset or most of Purbeck. 

 

Dorset Snow said on Twitter/X: “An area of low pressure will move in from the Atlantic and graze parts of southern England on Thursday.  

“Cold air (uppers of -6/-7C) is currently centred across the entire UK and dew points are expected to be between (-1C-1C).  

“This, along with expected heavy precipitation means that conditions will be snow conductive in most areas (although it may be more of a sleety mix across immediate coastlines).  

“Areas of elevation across central and west Dorset could see up to 5cm of accumulating snow, whilst accumulations will be more patchy across the coast and further north east.  

“The area of low pressure is expected to clear by mid-afternoon. Ice will be an added hazard on Thursday evening and Friday morning.” 

He added earlier: "A prolonged period of rain, sleet and snow now looking likely on Thursday.

"Most models have now pushed the area of low pressure further north meaning Dorset is in the firing line."

Bournemouth-based forecaster UK Extreme Weather said on Twitter/X that he agrees with Dorset Snow’s forecast. 

He added: “Models now almost all in agreement that a band of precipitation will move in tomorrow morning across the south, Dorset included. 

“Focus now shifts to will it be a wintry mix or snow. I’ve not looked in that detail yet, but I certainly will be now.” 

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region from 5am to 3pm on November 21. 

A spokesman said: “A spell of rain and snow is expected to develop across south west England early on Thursday.   

“Accumulating snow is most likely over higher ground above 200 metres where 2-5 cm is probable.  

“There is a chance that similar accumulations occur at lower levels in places.  

“Higher parts of Dartmoor could see 5-10 cm. There is likely to be a risk of ice developing as skies clear into Thursday night.”  

The forecaster added: “Snow over higher parts of south west England may lead to some travel delays, with a chance of snow to lower levels too.”  

Temperatures are set to drop to freezing from 5pm on Wednesday afternoon and below freezing into Thursday morning.
