A WEATHER warning for snow has been extended across east Dorset and a fresh warning for ice has been issued for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
Chaos is hitting the roads of the county and the Met Office has now extended its yellow weather for snow warning to north Bournemouth, Hurn, Ferndown, Verwood, north Dorset and more of Purbeck.
The warning, extended past Bere Regis this morning, is in place until 3pm on Thursday, November 21.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has also issued a yellow weather alert for ice from 5pm on Thursday until 10am on Friday, November 22 for the whole county.
A spokesman said: “Icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces during Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning as temperatures drop below freezing.
“A few wintry showers are also likely at times, particularly across the far west of the warning area, which may give a further one to two cm snowfall above 200 metres.”
BCP Council has said it is deploying its gritters to salt the roads. A spokesman said: “Due to the weather conditions, the gritters will be out today on roads across BCP area.
“Please take extra care while driving and allow extra time for your journey.”
Meanwhile, Dorset Council added: “Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous.
“Please keep yourself and others safe by planning your route and giving yourself extra time for your journey.”
Morebus has also cancelled numerous routes due to vehicles becoming stuck in the snow.
A spokesman for the Poole-based operator has said that many services in the east Dorset area are being affected because the roads have not been gritted overnight.
The spokesman said: "Heavy wet snow, no gritters overnight has led to many roads becoming impassable for cars in the East Dorset area, with buses becoming stuck behind cars that are stuck.
"We have no option but to suspend service for a while until the roads become driveable again."
Services affected include the 3, 4, 6, 13, 13a.
